The match went on without any interruption, but it was about what happened after the game was over.

The soccer referee got hit by a bottle
The match was smooth until the referee gave defender Ryan Inniss a red card in the 79th minute. The score at the time was 2-1 in favor of Fleetwood. While it was tough for Charlton to keep up with the attacks of Fleetwood with one less player but in the end, they managed to keep the score at 2-1 and lost the game. That’s when the incident occurs. When everyone was leaving the pitch, a fan punished the referee for giving a red card. They throw a bottle straight at the referee’s face.

Charlton will most definitely be facing some sort of punishment from the FA. In the middle of all this, Charlton boss Dean Holden gave a statement. He said, “It’s disappointing. Obviously, as a football club, we can not condone this kind of behavior at all. It doesn’t matter what has gone on out on the pitch. This should never happen. I assume it will be in the referee’s report. I will not condemn referees because it’s a tough job. But it was never a sending-off. It wasn’t a goal-scoring opportunity.“

Everyone is waiting for the final decision of the FA. The referee caught up in the incident, Carl Boyeson, is a 53-year-old official who has experience in officiation in major Tier 3 and 4 matches. However, something like a bottle thrown at the referee is still plausible in professional soccer. But a few days ago, two high school teams shocked the nation.

Schools are investigating the matter and have issued statements regarding the poor conduct of sportsmanship on the pitch. Although crazy incidents are nothing new in the world of soccer, it was a shocking incident as fans hardly get to see big brawls in high school soccer.
