“$200 Billion for This Nonsense”: Grand Sneak Peak of FIFA World Cup 2022 Opening Ceremony Leaves Soccer World Bemused

UK-based author and journalist Tansu YEĞEN has shared a snippet of the fireworks and opening of the FIFA World Cup. The video contains mesmerizing fireworks that people call a work of art. This World Cup is the first event in Qatar and 2nd in Asia after the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan/ South Korea. 

The tweet has mixed reactions from people, and few praise the art. But, on the other hand, some people criticize them for many things plaguing the event. The recent one was Qatar management’s decision to ban the sale of alcohol and beer in the surroundings of all FIFA stadiums. 

FIFA World Cup 2022 has evoked a lot of negativity

Everybody is talking about Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022, some praising, some criticizing, and some outright boycotting it. It all started with the concerns about human rights violations of migrant workers. Then, transitioned, the LGBTQ+ community stood for their rights and the opposing laws. The latest straws came when security threatened a Danish Journalist to break the camera.

As close as just three days before the World Cup’s opening ceremony, Qatar management banned the sale of alcohol in the nearby area of all FIFA stadiums. This decision is facing worldwide backlash. However, the sale of alcohol remains permitted in the corporate areas of the stadiums.

The performance lineup for the opening ceremony

The lineup of artists performing at FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar has yet to be officially announced. However, some artists have confirmed their presence, and some are reported to be in the lineup. The biggest name on this list is K-pop band BTS member Jungkook.

• Famous Rapper Lill Baby
• Actor and Dancer Nora Fatehi

The opening ceremony will be live in the USA on 20th November at 9:00 on FOX and Telemundo. This opening ceremony will be a one-of-a-kind sending out a strong message from Qatar to the world that they can handle significant events even after being criticized.

The world Cup is just a cup of days ago, and the world will witness this mega event in its glory. The Qatar management is doing its best to be able to host the event and respect the culture. They welcomed everybody to enjoy the event but requested everybody to respect the culture.
