However, like many other fans, he too felt that Lionel Messi should shockingly win the award ahead of the likes of Stephen Curry.

Rafael Nadal picks Messi ahead of Stephen Curry!

The Laureus World Sports Awards happens every year around this time. The purpose of these awards is to mainly celebrate the greatest athletes across the globe. Such athletes have the power to inspire and change millions of lives. The Laureus Awards picks the best individual or team among each of these categories, namely Sportsman, Sportswoman, Comeback, Team, Breakthrough, Sport for Good, and Action.

So, Rafael Nadal’s name appeared on the list yet again. The tennis legend could be on his way to winning the award for the third time. Along with him Lionel Messi, Stephen Curry, Kylian Mbappe, Max Verstappen, and Mondo Duplantis.

The awards committee also made a small video with different snippets of Nadal’s last year on the court. However, the tennis star squashed all of that and didn’t shy away from telling his fans what he truly felt.

He reposted that video on his story and wrote, “An honour to be nominated again to the @laureussport Sportsman of the year but this year let’s go Messi, you deserve it”. In the following story, he continued, “Vamos @leomessi te lo mereces tu”, which translates to, “Come on @leomessi you deserve it”.

The teary-eyed fans didn’t have words for the tennis legend after viewing his story. However, the common feeling around the room is that Messi deserves the award this year.

Without a doubt, the athletes on the shortlist had a great last year. The fans cannot stop praising Stephen Curry for his crazy levels of consistency every season. However, Lionel Messi has slightly edged forward in the race. This is mainly because the Argentine star won the FIFA World Cup.

He managed to win his country’s third FIFA World Cup of all time. The most special part about Messi’s entire story is that he did it at the age of 35.

The Argentine was responsible for scoring a few crucial goals and pioneering a few lethal attacking plays during his team’s World Cup campaign. His soccer club, Paris Saint-Germain, is desperately trying to renew his contract. However, it seems like the soccer legend’s eyes are elsewhere. The former Barcelona legend could be on his way to the MLS to join David Beckham at Inter Miami.
