Fast forward to 2023, the two legends sat down for a candid interview to discuss Iverson’s basketball career, and its impact on people. Not many players can argue that ‘The Answer’ dominated the league like none other.
From challenging Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant for the 2001 NBA title, although he lost the series, he remained in the hearts of the basketball fraternity. But he suffered from various issues in life, and Henry acknowledges his remarkable career and the impact Iverson had in his prime.

The Arsenal soccer legend became a force in the 2000s and led Arsenal to league titles and domestic cups. And he credited Iverson for changing his mentality and helping him become open about his life.

Thierry Henry explains Allen Iverson’s impact on his career
The soccer star gave him the ultimate tribute for the fighter he was. Henry stated, “You showed me that you’re vulnerable. You showed me that things were possible in life against all odds.” He continued, “You showed me that you can dominate in the NBA by being ‘only a small man.’ You allowed me to dream.” When Iverson played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Henry joined Arsenal in 1999. The duo peaked together in their careers to become two of the most exciting players in their respective leagues.

Thierry explained how he loved his personality and what it meant to him. He continued, “You allowed me to say to myself it’s possible even if a lot of people love to hate you or hate to love you or however you want to phrase it. I used to love to love you. And I still do, by the way.” The shooting guard from Virginia took the league by storm during his hay days. Similarly to how Michael Jordan made Nike famous, Iverson skyrocketed Reebok’s popularity to the moon.

In the end, Henry described what Iverson meant to fans in London, Abu Dhabi, and across continents. By giving him a chance to believe in himself, Henry raced up the scoring charts for Arsenal and ended as a legend. He thanked the teary-eyed Iverson for making a difference in his life. It is arguably one of the best interviews in recent times. The two players loved the company of each other, and the chemistry oozed off from the start.
