Trinity Rodman is truly one of a kind. Almost every women’s soccer player in America goes through a standard career trajectory. They first play soccer in college and then they enroll in the National Women’s Soccer League or sign for a club outside of America.
However, Rodman had other plans. The young soccer star felt that it was time to go professional before playing a minute of university soccer. But she broke the stereotype after Washington Spirit signed her through Washington State University at the age of 18.
Her mother, Michelle Moyer, seemingly knew that her daughter was cut out for professional soccer from the very get-go. Michelle shares a very tight bond with Trinity as a single mother. The NWSL star’s father, Dennis Rodman, was a character himself during his NBA career. The fans regard him as one of the best rebounders in NBA history.

Even after having an athlete superstar as her father, let’s have a look at the kind of relationship Trinity Rodman shares with both her parents.
Trinity Rodman and her brother DJ Rodman were raised by single mother Michelle Moyer
Dennis Junior Rodman and his famous younger sister, Trinity Rodman, were born a year after each other in 2001 and 2002, respectively. In the beginning, their father Dennis Rodman was present in their lives. However, the conflicts started in 2004 and the couple ended up filing for a divorce.

Even though the couple officially parted ways in 2012, Dennis’ interaction with his kids was bare minimal after the initial years. It was pretty much Michelle raising two fine athletes all by herself. Even though the NWSL star started her career with basketball, her mother eventually realized that her daughter was meant for soccer.
While Trinity signed a record $1.1 million deal with Washington Spirit in 2022, her brother plays college basketball for the Washington State Cougars of the Pac-12 Conference.
Trinity Rodman’s relationship with her father Dennis Rodman
Even though Dennis Rodman was a superstar during his playing days, his wild lifestyle off the pitch massively let him down. Without a doubt, he is one of the best defenders of this generation. However, his whacky attitude and wild past were the main reasons he couldn’t sustain himself in a family.
In 2019, Dennis told ESPN that he always desired to be a better father. He said, “It’s difficult, even though inside I love them and it hurts me when my kids say ‘It’s okay Dad you can hug us and you can touch us’. It’s hard because it burns me up and hurts me so much. Gonna have to go home and sort of re-evaluate and try and cleanse my soul and say yes you can do this”.
Rodman’s emotional Instagram post after her father attended her NWSL game
In 2021, Dennis Rodman surprised his daughter by turning up at one of her NWSL matches. Washington Spirit managed to win the game 1-0 thanks to a late goal by Ashley Hatch. Even though the Spirit qualified for the NWSL semi-final, everyone’s attention was on the NBA legend and his star daughter. The two of them shared a tight hug after the game.

But Trinity took the emotional quotient to another level after she penned down a tribute message for her dad on Instagram. Here’s an excerpt from her tribute, “My dad doesn’t play a big role in my life at all and most people don’t know that, we don’t see eye to eye on many things. I go months if not years without his presence or communication. Being in spotlights has been hard for us, him and me”.
She also revealed that she doesn’t share the best relationship with Dennis. But the NWSL youngster was humble enough to give her father the credit where it was due. She continued, “We don’t have the best relationship, but at the end of the day he’s human I’m human… he’s my dad, and I’m his little girl that will never change. I will improve and look forward every day as I hope he does”.
Trinity Rodman’s mother is her rock
Trinity Rodman has all the respect in the world for Michelle Moyer, her mother. Even after having a huge impact on the soccer scene at such a young age, she still has that connection going strong with her mother and elder brother.

In an exclusive interview with The Guardian, she said, “Having a dad like I do, no one asks about my mom because she’s obviously not an NBA star, but I just want people to know that my mom’s been my support system in everything in life and she’s my best friend and my rock”.
