The soccer career of Lionel Messi is a saga of sheer excellence. Its narrative is so rich and compelling that even a blockbuster movie or a documentary series could barely scratch the surface. For now, the Argentinian superstar has stepped into a realm occupied by legends like Michael Jordan and LeBron James after sealing an extraordinary partnership with a multi-billion dollar company. Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time that the World Cup winner has gone ahead with such a kind of collaboration.

Meanwhile, this could turn out to be quite an interesting proposition for the Barcelona legend as he could likely sit idle for months, as his domestic season with Inter Miami is pretty much over, having missed the MLS playoffs.

As if Lionel Messi’s appearances on the soccer pitch weren’t delightful enough, the player has ventured into the world of entertainment. Earlier, he took part in a drama series, and now he is set to star in an animated series. The new animated series, ‘Messi and the Giants’, will be released by $104.35 billion worth Sony Entertainment.

The series portrays the adventures of a 12-year-old Lionel Messi as he encounters challenges during a virtual video game journey with the ultimate goal of finding his way back home. Joe D’Ambrosia, EVP and General Manager, Sony Pictures Television Kids, quoted, “What makes this series special is that it focuses on the same principles of good sportsmanship… it’s about perseverance, resilience, teamwork and believing in yourself”, as compiled by the Wrap.

Sony has officially announced that ‘Messi and the Giants’ will be accessible in both English and Spanish, as well as a wide array of other languages. However, as of now, the details about the streaming and broadcasting are yet to be revealed. Be that as it may, it was quite interesting to hear about the Argentine’s upcoming animated series.

Undoubtedly, the fanbase would be eagerly anticipating it. Additionally, Lionel Messi’s footsteps into the animated series realm solidifies his presence in the same territory as that of Michael Jordan and LeBron James. How?

Notably, Messi isn’t the first athlete to get an animated series of himself. Earlier, basketball icons Michael Jordan and LeBron James have also starred in their own animated series. In 1996, Jordan made an appearance in ‘Space Jam’ embarking on an exciting journey alongside the beloved character Bugs Bunny. This film was directed by Malcolm D. Lee, with creative contributions from the filmmaking duo of Ryan Coogler and Maverick Carter.

Then, in 2021, ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ was released, which featured LeBron James. Within this movie’s storyline, James and his son, Dom, become ensnared in a digital realm. To secure their escape, LeBron collaborates with the Looney Tunes Squad and conquers an algorithm through a basketball contest.
