Despite being the undisputed king of the NBA, LeBron James is also an avid soccer fan. He owns 2% stakes in Liverpool FC that totals up to an eye-watering 89 million USD. Last year in December, Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group aka FSG decided to put the club on the same. However, it is now clear that only minority stakes are on sale.

They value the club at 4.45 billion USD. In the middle of all this, LeBron did something that will strike odd for some fans. Over the past decade, since LeBron got the stakes in 2011, he has been very vocal about supporting Liverpool. However, just hours ago, he praised a rival player.

There are no official statements about what LeBron is going to do with his stake, but, given that FSG isn’t selling the club as a whole, there are high chances LeBron will be keeping his stake intact.

LeBron’s investment in Liverpool

In 2010, FSG acquired Liverpool FC, and a mere year later, it shocked every fan to see that NBA star LeBron James owned 2% stakes in the club. Although a few know that the connection between FSG and LeBron goes deeper than that. Fans can know it from the fact that LeBron didn’t spend a single penny to own these stakes that around some time will be worth a hundred million.

According to a few sources, the deal between FSG and LeBron James was such that he got stakes and the Organization would bring brand deals and other corporation deals and would earn money from their fee. In 2011, 2% stakes cost FSG around 6 million, but as of January 2023, this figure feels like it is missing a zero in it.
