You’d be living under a rock, if you were caught off guard by Kylian Mbappe‘s PSG exit announcement! The Frenchman has his eyes set on a move to Real Madrid and has made it clear that the ongoing season in Paris would be his last with the club. Mbappe and Madrid have been linked with each other for the last three years, and it seems like both parties will finally have their wish granted this summer.

USMNT legend Alexi Lalas and his State of the Union co-host David Mosse discussed the Frenchman’s move to Santiago Bernabeu in the latest episode of the podcast. While talking about the move, Mosse compared it to NBA icon Kevin Durant’s stint with the Golden State Warriors. The SOTY co-host stated, “First off, it’s interesting to me that [Kylian] Mbappe is doing things in the opposite order as Messi. He took care of the World Cup early on winning it at 19. Scoring in the final and then scoring a hattrick in the next World Cup final. So his international is unimpeachable.”

Mosse then added, “The Champions League is going to be his big void to cross to the bear. This was his last crack with PSG. He’s gonna leave this summer after seven seasons there. Go to Real Madrid and probably win a couple of Champions League there which will give it this sort of Kevin Durant Golden State Warrior-ish kind of feel. Nevertheless, I don’t begrudge him going to Real Madrid at this point in his career. Whatever he wins, he’ll have deserved it.”

The Devin Durant comparison is kind of spot on. Durant spent eight seasons at Oklahoma City Thunder failing to get his hands on a single NBA title. However, his move to the Golden State Warriors in 2016 saw Durant win back-to-back titles with the club. Kylian Mbappe will hope to achieve the same feat with the player looking to create a new legacy at Real Madrid.

The Frenchman has had a rough week in what is turning out to be his last month at PSG. Mbappe and his teammates had the chance to make it to the finals of the Champions League but succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the semifinals. Despite dominating both legs, the team failed to make the most of their chances. PSG hit the woodwork on seven occasions, summing up their woes in front of the goal. Kylian Mbappe was no different with the player failing to make an impact on both legs.

The Frenchman struggled to get past Matt Hummels and Ian Maatsen on both occasions, failing to get a single goal. Despite their efforts, PSG will have to settle with the Ligue 1 title to wrap up an underwhelming season. This could have been the team’s best chance of winning the Champions League title. With Mbappe set to leave the club come summer, PSG is likely to go through some drastic changes which could derail the club’s momentum.
