Meanwhile, on their birthday, fans compared the legacies they left in the country. It is difficult to compare two sports stars from different sports, but fans can’t refrain from doing so.?
Fans compare MLS star’s legacy to Vince Carter
Vince Carter started his NBA journey with Toronto Raptors in 1998. He was at the franchise for six seasons. On the other hand, Sebastian Giovinco played for the MLS franchise Toronto FC for four seasons between 2015 to 2019.?
One Twitter user, comparing the two, asked the fans who had a bigger impact, mentioning them as Toronto’s greatest athletes. One fan replied,?“First ?major? title since 2012. I know we have had these discussions before, but if your not going to include a Grey Cup championship ?major? because it ain?t the NFL, you can?t include an MLS title as major. It?s not even in the top 5 best leagues in the world of soccer.”
Fans had a divided opinion on the question as there were fans who took the side of Carter while others took the side of Giovinco. Few think Carter has left his legacy by helping NBA reach more people in the country.?
First “major” title since 2012. I know we have had these discussions before, but if your not going to include a Grey Cup championship “major” because it ain’t the NFL, you can’t include an MLS title as major. It’s not even in the top 5 best leagues in the world of soccer.

Vince catapulted basketball across Canada and invigorated an entire country to embrace basketball paving the way for the next generation of CDN ballers … Seba is arguably the best player ever in MLS and won a championship but doesn’t have the same reach as Vince in Canada

Other fans took the side of the former Italian soccer star, saying his contribution to Toronto FC has made people more inclined to soccer. Compared to basketball, Canada’s national soccer team has put it on the international map. Toronto FC also won its major title MLS Cup in 2017 when the former Juventus forward was playing for them.

Have to say it was Seba. He brought soccer credibility to this city when it was – and maybe still is – fighting to be seen and heard. He opened the door for the likes of Insigne and Bernardeschi. Too bad he can’t round out his career in the same place.

I would have said vince, but then again. Even with a 10 year head start. Soccer right now had canada make the world cup. Whilst the basketball side, we're languishing in fiba purgatory. We still can't make the Olympics…

Both done huge things for thier respective sports in Toronto, I know absaloutely NOTHING about basketball yet when I came to Canada in 05 I knew who Vince Carter was, I'd assume the same would go for those who know nothing about football but by 2017 knew gio
