The emerging USWNT soccer star Trinity Rodman is making a name for herself. She started the 2023 NWSL season with a bang. NBA legend Dennis Rodman’s daughter scored the winner in the first game for Washington Spirit. She also assisted a goal in the second game before joining the USWNT for the final international camp before the World Cup.

The 2021 NWSL Rookie of the Year winner Trinity Rodman was compared to NBA great Michael Jordan by former Washington Spirit coach. Rodman’s display in her first season with Spirit, where they won NWSL, made the former coach draw a comparison with Jordan’s early years in NBA. 

USWNT starlet was compared with her father in the early days. However, Rodman now feels those comparisons have evaporated now. 

Trinity Rodman on Dennis Rodman comparison

Rodman recently spoke to PEOPLE on various aspects, including comparisons with her father. Despite being the daughter of an NBA legend, Rodman says critics don’t often compare her to her father. “I think maybe when I was younger, a lot of people had this expectation that everything was handed to me, but in terms of actually on the field, I don’t think I struggled that much with that, just because we do play different sports and I don’t think anybody had the performance expectations in a sense,” she says.

Trinity does not boast a great relationship with Dennis Rodman. She revealed it in one of her social media posts back in 2021. Meanwhile, in 2021 Dennis surprised his daughter by attending the playoff game between Spirit and OL Reign. Trinity scored an important goal against Spirit, helping them go to the final and assisting in the final.

Dennis seemed proud of his daughter’s performance. Trinity was happy and emotional to see him watching her game with a proud feeling. She has learned many things from an NBA legend and wants to imbibe the ‘never give up’ attitude of Dennis in her game. Trinity is also a fan of Dennis’ attitude to push himself and his teammates to win.

Her mother is a role model for Trinity

Michelle Rodman isn’t a famous personality, nor is she an athlete. But despite knowing nothing about the sport, Michelle has raised a brilliant soccer player. For Trinity, her mother is a role model and support system that has made her such a brilliant athlete.

The USWNT starlet feels the competitiveness in her has come from her mother. It was because of her mother she took soccer as her career. Trinity will hope to continue her form at the start of the season to keep herself in contention for this year’s World Cup roster.
