US soccer legend Megan Rapinoe has been outspoken in the sports world. She has always stood up for what’s right despite others’ opinions. Rapinoe has been vocal about Brittney Griner, who is currently in a Russian jail after being sentenced to nine years. Griner appealed the sentence but to no avail. Earlier this month, her lawyers revealed that the authorities shifted her to the IK-2 women’s prison in Yavas, Mordovia. Shocking details have emerged from her prison, which left Megan Rapinoe heartbroken.

A Russian court sentenced Brittney to nine years in prison over charges of smuggling. She plead guilty, but the decision didn’t come in her favor. A few months back, the US government was reportedly considering a prisoner swap. However, there hasn’t been much development in that since then.

Many celebrities around the world have spoken up on WNBA legend Brittney Griner so far. Megan Rapinoe spoke up on Griner earlier this year at the ESPYs and acknowledged her during her acceptance speech. She has recently reacted to the prison conditions of Brittney Griner through her social media.

Megan Rapinoe reacts to inhumane Russian prison conditions where Brittney Griner resides

Rapinoe is currently a free agent after spending years with OL Reign in the NWSL. She hasn’t been much active on social media during the free agency. But she was heartbroken after reading about the inhumane conditions of the BG’s prison in Russia. Rapinoe reacted to the report through Instagram.

“Devastating every single day. Thinking of BG and her whole family,” Rapinoe wrote on her Instagram story.

Brittney Griner will reportedly face horrific conditions in the IK-2 prison in Russia. Several reports reveal that prisoners are kept in inhumane conditions in the prison and are subjected to 16 hours of work. She could also face racism inside the penal colony. Griner’s attorney recently revealed some details about her life inside the prison.

[Griner is] “not allowed to sleep” [outside of the prison’s allotted hours,] “because those are the jail rules,” her attorney explained last month. “Of course, you can lay down for a bit, but mostly they talk with” other inmates during daily free time.”

BG, being a WNBA athlete, had to maintain insane physical standards to play professionally. However, according to her lawyer, she would not be able to do that inside her prison as it has no facilities such as a gym, runway, or basketball court.
