Lionel Messi had always received a warm reception from wherever he went in the US. Today, the World Cup winner witnessed something completely different. Hours ago, Inter Miami played their League Cup semis against Philadelphia Union away from home. It is safe to say that the home fans weren’t very friendly with the soccer legend. While he warmed up on the pitch, hundreds of fans booed from the stands.

Known for his calm demeanor, the soccer veteran was unsurprisingly unfazed by the boos. He continued his warmup drills with his teammates. Seemingly, the $600 million rich soccer legend made up his mind at that time to prove his worth on the pitch. Messi’s Inter Miami ended up beating the home side with a 1-4 scoreline. He continued his six-game winning and scoring streak in the US since his arrival.

The Argentine soccer legend scored another banger from outside the box in this game. Without a doubt, he raised Inter Miami’s gameplay to the next level. After beating Philadelphia, the fans consider them favorites to beat Nashville SC in the final and lift their first piece of silverware with Messi at the helm.

Hours before this semifinal clash, Joel Embiid probably anticipated the heat that the home fans will have against the soccer veteran. He quickly tweeted a short message to the soccer fans in Philadelphia to show him some love. Along with other sportspersons, even celebrities have previously urged the fans to join and support ‘the Messi soccer movement’ in America.

What did Joel Embiid exactly tweet about Lionel Messi?

Joel Embiid, who plays for the Philadelphia 76ers, already has a good rapport with the sports fanbase at home. Prior to Messi’s arrival, he made a special request to them. The NBA star wrote, “Make sure y’all show love to the 🐐 in our city tonight but let’s first get this dub”. His tweet received quite a good response on Twitter, but the home fans seemingly didn’t take note of his words as there was ‘booing’ all around.

Embiid wasn’t the first renowned name to ask the fans to watch and support Messi. A few weeks ago, a Floridian rapper asked the fans to show Inter Miami some love, just like they support Miami Heat and Miami Dolphins. Rick Ross urged every sports fan in Miami to become a part of a new soccer movement in America, with Lionel Messi at the helm.
