Laura Harvey’s side lost to Kansas City in the semi-finals by 2-0. However, the Currents only went to the finals to lose against Portland Thorns FC with the same scoreline.

Nevertheless, now she’ll be looking to achieve the feat once again as the new season of NWSL is set to begin. Twelve teams across America are set to kick off the 2023 season on March 25.

Trinity Rodman’s message ahead of facing Megan Rapinoe

The OL Reign’s first league opponent will be the Washington Spirits, who will travel to DC to battle for three points. Both will play on 27th March as either side will be looking to get their first win of the new season.

While everyone is excited about the clash, there’s one player who can’t hold back her excitement. With both teams preparing for the emphatic clash, one of the Spirits players, Trinity Rodman, has a message ahead of the fixture. She shared the post about the match on her Instagram story and wrote, “We’re back baby!!!.”

Trinity, the daughter of a former basketball player, Dennis Rodman, has become a central figure at the Audi Field. The forward signed a contract worth $1.1 million with the Spirits, thus making her the highest-paid player in the NWSL.

NWSL set to feature an expansion team

With the new season beginning, the NWSL also gave the good news to fans in Utah. The league announced on Saturday that the Utah Royals FC will be returning as an expansion team.

The team will be playing in the 2024 season, which will be owned by David Blitzer and Ryan Smith. The duo also owns an MLS side, Real Salt Lake, and a few stakes in a Premier League side, Crystal Palace, and a German side, Augsburg FC.

They also own Portuguese side GD Estoril Praia and Belgian top side Waasland-Beveren. Aside from soccer, they are part owners of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers. Moreover, Smith is also the owner of the NBA’s Utah Jazz. The opportunity came to light after the Royals and RSL had to be sold forcefully by their previous owner, Dell Loy Hansen.
