Trinity Rodman has witnessed a phenomenal rise over the past few years. The soccer star is taking her family name to new heights, which once had NBA star Dennis Rodman as it’s crown jewel. But with his retirement, Trinity took charge and is keeping a shine on the family’s name. However, she certainly doesn’t want to build it like her father did.

As of now, Trinity is out with her USWNT teammates contesting for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. While she plays in the prestigious tournament to win her first golden trophy, the forward is keen to write her own story. In fact, she aims to write it away from the shadow of her father.

At the age of 18, Trinity Rodman made history by becoming the youngest player ever to be drafted into the NWSL. Later in November, she played a significant role in leading the Washington Spirit to their first championship and was recognized as the Rookie of the Year. While she has successfully crafted her own path, Trinity constantly faces reminders of her renowned family name.

However, the forward is keen to shine, without the aid of her father’s legacy. While speaking to ESPN, she said, “People do know Trinity Rodman, sometimes first before Dennis Rodman now. I’m not trying to overcome what he had accomplished. I just want to build my own story.” During her childhood, Trinity “couldn’t accept that people could play a sport just for fun.” Hence, this enticed her to pursue soccer at a professional level.

The forward’s mother, Michelle Moyer, foresaw her daughter’s soccer career “going somewhere” as early as age 5. Although Trinity recognizes her father’s competitive spirit within herself, she does not share a strong bond with him. “Growing up, people always thought that me and my dad had a close relationship and we never did,” she said. Trinity was also blunt about her father’s absence in her life.

“Living in Newport Beach, my dad was a little bit around, but was still in the party, NBA phase. He wasn’t in our lives,” she added. Indeed, it seems Trinity is quite ambitious to forge her own path. Perhaps, she might be able to do this if she manages to win something with the USWNT.

This year’s Women’s World Cup installment is quite special for the USWNT, especially for Rodman. Winning the golden trophy will give Vlatko Andonovski’s side a historic three-peat. Subsequently, it will also give Rodman a chance to clinch her first World Cup and etch her name in the history books. In fact, it will also give her a fair chance to cement her own name, which will be different from that of her father, The Worm.
