Once Compared With Dennis Rodman by Shaquille O’Neal, NBA Star Lauds Trinity Rodman for Paris Olympics Heroics in USWNT vs Japan

If it were not for Trinity Rodman‘s clutch gene, the USWNT could have perhaps bid the Olympics adieu just a day after USMNT’s Olympic exit. After a myriad of failed attempts to thwart Japan’s defense, Rodman succeeded in the 107th minute, in sending coach Emma Hayes and Co. to the Olympic semi-finals. An array of superstars outside soccer are now in line to praise Dennis Rodman’s daughter for redeeming Team USA in Paris. Seems like Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes was just one among many to praise Rodman. She is currently the favorite of NBA royalty as well.

Golden State’s ace Draymond Green couldn’t resist the urge to loudly cheer on Trinity Rodman after the USA’s close win against Japan. Who would have thought that Green would closely follow Rodman’s game just months after earning a comparison to her father and Chicago Bulls legend Dennis Rodman? The GSW forward took to X and wrote, “Yeah Trinity!!!,” showing his huge excitement at the 23-year-old’s game-winning strike at the Olympic quarter-finals.

Speaking of Draymond Green’s parallels with Dennis Rodman, it was four-time champion Shaquille O’Neal who made the bizarre comparison. In December 2023, the NBA gave an indefinite suspension to Green for striking the Suns’ Jusuf Nurkic on his face. O’Neal sided with Green, saying the latter had no intention of striking the Suns star. He added he would only give the GSW star a two-game suspension. To prove his point, he added, “This is the way he’s been. That’s the way [Dennis] Rodman has been his whole career.” This was a clear allusion to Rodman Sr’s innumerable reckless antics in the NBA.

If Trinity Rodman fouled and got a yellow card, she would sit out in Team USA’s upcoming semi-final, aggravating Emma Hayes’ woes. She had to get past that challenge and indeed, she could not have done it better. Besides, Rodman and the whole of USWNT’s frontline looked immensely fatigued towards the end of the game. Their sluggishness even forced fans to question why Hayes is not calling up substitutes from the bench. But it took Rodman several attempts and a final immaculate strike to prove Hayes’s critics wrong.

Team USA now awaits a semi-final tie against the winner of tonight’s Canada-Germany tie. The US has an advantage if they play Germany, considering they have ousted the European side 4-1 in the group stage. Canada, on the other hand, looks a determined side after winning three group games amid the drone use scandal. Only time will tell what awaits the USWNT.
