“Girls Can Do Everything Guys Can Do” – Kobe Bryant Inspired Dennis Rodman’s Daughter Trinity Rodman’s Meteoric Rise in the USWNT

USWNT has seen many superstars playing for them who have helped the team dominate the international circuit. Abby Wambach, Mia Hamm, Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan, and Megan Rapinoe are a few of those who represented the four times Women’s World Cup winners. However, a rookie, inspired by the late NBA great Kobe Bryant when she was eight, is making a name for herself recently. 

Trinity Rodman, daughter of the NBA legend Dennis Rodman, at 20, is the new star in US women’s soccer. Trinity plays for the NWSL side, Washington Spirit, and has already won the NWSL in 2021 with the club. Earlier this year, the soccer sensation shared how an NBA legend inspired her. 

Kobe Bryant liked how 8-year-old Trinity Rodman played

The late Kobe Bryant referred to Trinity as a stud when he first saw her playing at 8. He walked to her and said, “Girls can do everything guys can do.” It proved to be invaluable advice for the 8-year-old, and it inspired her.

Earlier this year, while speaking to CBS Mornings, she recalled the advice from the late LA Lakers legend. Trinity said, “I think he always saw that way, and having daughters helped him with that, and he saw so much in me at a young age, just how competitive I was and how serious I took it”. 

Trinity credits her mother for supporting her since childhood to follow her dreams. It was her faith that helped Trinity become a soccer player. The Spirit forward doesn’t want to emulate the career of her father, Dennis Rodman, but wants to write her own story. However, she wants to imbibe the never give up attitude of her father on the field. 

Trinity Rodman is the highest-paid player in the NWSL at 20

Trinity Rodman is already breaking records in the NWSL and is just 20. She became the youngest player to be drafted in the NWSL when Washington Spirit picked her in 2021. The second-highest scorer for Spirit in the 2021 season helped the club to win NWSL. 

In the process, Trinity Rodman became the NWSL Rookie of the Year 2021 and was part of the NWSL Best XI the same year. US Soccer Federation awarded her the award, Young Female Player of the Year 2021. It was no surprise the sensation became the highest-paid women’s soccer player in the NWSL.

Trinity Rodman has scored 16 goals in 47 appearances for the Spirit across all competitions. She made her debut for USWNT earlier this year and has made 10 appearances, scoring twice so far. It will be interesting to see whether Trinity makes it to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup roster or not.
