Today, the soccer fraternity got to witness the official MLS debut of Messi. The new Florida man might not have played the game from the start but he came off the bench for the remaining half an hour. All his ardent fans were desperately waiting for this moment. Interestingly, he wasn’t just visible on the TV screens, rather, thousands were watching him from the streets of New York.

This comes after the Miami star came on the big screens of Times Square while he was coming on the field. Likewise, a video was shared by Joe Pompliano on Twitter, who wrote, “There are thousands of people in Times Square watching a live stream of Lionel Messi and Inter Miami playing the NY Red Bulls. I can’t think of another American athlete that would demand this level of attention.”

The clip shows the busy crowd in New York stopping to take out their phones and record Messi through the screen. Indeed, it’s quite a surprising event as it becomes more special, given that another important game was being played. Aside from the New York Red Bulls of the MLS, the New York Mets of MLB were playing against LA Angeles at the very same time.

Even though the Herons were slightly ahead due to Deigo Gomez’s goal in the 37th minute, Messi entered the field in the 60th minute and managed to extend their lead in the final minutes of the match.

Consequently, he played a crucial role in securing a long-awaited win for his team. Undoubtedly, he aims to maintain his impressive scoring streak. However, devoted Miami supporters will have to endure his absence for the upcoming weeks. But coming back, it’s quite impressive that he didn’t take much time to score his inaugural goal in the MLS.
