The USWNT and NWSL are filled with raw and natural soccer talents. But this time, we keep the sport aside and look back at the unbreakable bond between Chicago Red Stars forward, Mallory Pugh and Dansby Swanson. Both of them are pretty well-known in their respective sport. While soccer fans recognize Pugh as a lethal forward for the US, MLB fans also cannot stop talking about Swanson’s legacy in the game.

Looking back, Dansby Swanson was the No.1 overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft. He then went on to win the World Series with the Atlanta Braves in 2021. He also won his first-ever golden glove for his phenomenal form during the entire season. On the other hand, Pugh became the youngest ever player to score a goal for the USWNT at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Let’s dive deeper into details about their beautiful inter-sport relationship as a whole. Honestly, such relationships just help get two sports fanbases closer to each other.

How did Mallory Pugh and Dansby Swanson meet?

The sports power couple met way back in 2017. The person responsible for introducing the two future love birds to each other is Swanson’s former teammate Jace Peterson. Interestingly, Jace Peterson is married to Pugh’s sister, Brianna.

The couple finally announced their engagement after dating for years

After dating for many years, Swanson finally decided that it was time to go down on one knee. On December 3, 2021, the MLB star posted a picture of the proposal. It was quite a cozy environment. Swanson decided to propose to his girlfriend right outside the doorstep of their home. He also posted a picture of the precious moment. In the caption, he wrote, “Mr. and Mrs. Swanson coming soon”, followed by a ‘ring’ emoji.

Weeks prior to the proposal, Swanson had won the World Series with Atlanta Braves. During the last post-game interview, he said, “I’ve got my family here, my best friends are here, the love of my life Mallory is here”. The Braves veteran was probably giving the sports universe a hint about his upcoming plan.

Pugh and Swanson tied the knot in a dreamy forest-themed wedding

On December 10, 2022, Mallory Pugh and Dansby Swanson tied the knot in the most luxurious way. Pictures and videos from their wedding reception stayed relevant to social media for weeks. The NWSL star wed the MLB legend at the Ritz Carlton Reynolds Lake Oconee in Georgia.

At the wedding, Pugh exclusively told People, “To get married in front of our family and friends is so special. It means that we are becoming one and get to impact God’s kingdom together”. Along with the high-profile celebrity guest list, Swanson and Pugh opted for numerous gold star chandeliers, a white dance floor, and a custom floral installation with white wisteria.

Pugh wore a custom-made Anne Barge gown for the memorable walk down the aisle. The couple got their wedding rings done by Jason from Beverly Hills. Apart from that, the USWNT star generously gifted each of her bridesmaids Air Force Ones.

Sara Fried from Fete Nashville Luxury Weddings revealed that the entire backdrop and theme of the reception was Pugh’s idea initially. She told People, “Mal’s vision for her dream ceremony was an enchanted forest canopied with towering trees. We added whimsical string lights, romantic crystal chandeliers, and a gorgeous white altar inspired by church windows, and let nature be the focal point”.

The soccer star opts for her married name ‘Swanson’ on her jersey

In January 2023, US Soccer named the official 24-player roster ahead of their training camp in New Zealand. The USWNT was headed to the upcoming World Cup host’s home turf for a six-day training camp, followed by a couple of friendlies. However, most of the fans pinpointed one major change on the roster announcement sheet.

‘Mallory Swanson’ appeared on the roster instead of the usual Mallory Pugh. The sudden name change took the fanbase by surprise. The USWNT fans couldn’t stop poking fun at the American forward.
