During the award show, Shakira took an obvious hit at Gerard Pique during her acceptance speech. This award show took place just hours before she made a surprise appearance with Tom Cruise at the Miami Grand Prix.

Last month, Billboard decided to honor Shakira in a special way. They publicly announced that the singer will be the first-ever ‘Latin Woman of the Year’. Along with her, several other significant names would also receive an accolade. This was basically to honor the Latin female artists who are working towards gender parity, positive change, and inclusion.

In no time, the Waka–Waka singer released a heartwarming response to the same. During her acceptance speech, she took quite a few hits at her ex-boyfriend. She said, “There comes a time in every woman’s life when she no longer depends on someone to love or accept herself as she is”, as per Marca.

Shakira claimed that she had forgotten about herself during the past year. She revealed that women are much stronger and braver than everyone thinks. She admitted that every woman has gone through the experience of “looking for attention, affection or approval from others…”.

Towards the end, she said, “It’s true that when I felt most lost, it was music that put me on the path back to myself”. This emotional speech was just hours prior to Shakira’s appearance at the Miami Grand Prix.
