The 2023 NBA All-Star Game is now not very far away. With about two weeks to go, the fans cannot keep their excitement in check. However, the WNBA has just made an extremely important announcement. WNBA star Candace Parker will become the first female in-game color commentator to call an NBA All-Star game in Salt Lake City. However, this wasn’t the first time Parker was the first to achieve something. It was a proud moment for every WNBA player and fan out there.

USWNT star, Alex Morgan, also joined the fans in appreciating the WNBA star.

The NBA All-Star game is definitely a big deal for every NBA fan. Shaquille O’Neal recently got into a heated debate over his NBA All-Star picks. The entire NBA fanbase was congratulating Candace Parker after this monumental achievement. American soccer star Alex Morgan also joined the bandwagon of fans and put her kind words of appreciation out there. She first reposted the announcement post on an Instagram story and congratulated the WNBA star and made sure to tag her. Below that, she wrote, “Breaking barriers for the future to come”.

However, Candace Parker is quite used to being the ‘first’. In 2004, the WNBA star won a slam dunk contest amongst strong competitors like J. R. Smith and Josh Smith. Parker became the first female to ever win that contest. A few years later, she raised the bar further up. The American basketball pro became the first woman to successfully dunk in an NCAA game.

Also, this will not be her first appearance on camera. Parker has been working with broadcast crews for a few years. She currently is an offseason analyst since 2018 for NBA on TNT. She’s also featured on CBS Sports as a commentator for NCAA tournaments and for NBA TV. This year, Brian Anderson will also make his debut in an NBA All-Star game. He will be taking on play-by-play duty, while Parker will assist Reggie Miller as an analyst.

Candace Parker has shared the camera with some of the biggest NBA stars like Shaquille O’Neal in the past. The American basketball pro has always been grateful and humble for every opportunity she has gotten over the years.

After getting the role at the All-Star game, Parker gave a quick interview to Sports Illustrated. During that cameo, she was extremely thankful and grateful for the role. She said, “I’m a fan first and foremost of the NBA and especially the All-Star Game”. She continued, “And so I think the fan of the game, and the childhood Candace is—I have to pinch myself to believe that I’m doing it, and that I’m able to have a courtside seat to see the best players in the world”.
The two-time WNBA champion and MVP has created a legacy for herself as a basketball player. The fans truly believe that Parker has the potential to aim for the sky in the broadcasting sector as well. Candace Parker is the best example for any young women athlete out there who is in need of some motivation and a possible role model.
