Paris Saint-Germain faced a health storm during their first UEFA Champions League knockout game of the season. The club’s camp in Parc des Princes was taken after sickness hit a few of its players, according to reports. Two main players, Kang-in Lee and Lucas Hernandez had to drop out of the starting eleven in the round of 16 clash against Real Sociedad due to stomach viruses. Nevertheless, the club’s talisman Kylian Mbappe took PSG over the line in an all-important home game of their UEFA Champions League run.
PSG, is in pursuit of their first Champions League title, are not ready to give in to any kind of external force. The team put up a brave effort against the strong Spanish team to come out victorious. However, the illness of the players will raise doubts about their availability for the upcoming games, which can be crucial in terms of how the season turns out for the club.

The good news for PSG is that Lucas Hernandez was available on the bench yesterday. The PSG #21 came in the 72nd minute, providing relief for the club’s fans. Meanwhile, the Korean winger’s condition seems a bit worrisome, as he was reportedly not able to move out of his house, according to the journalist Helena Condis of COPE.
Lee forms a vital part of the PSG’s midfield and is deemed a replacement for Lionel Messi in the club’s attack due to his strong left foot. Even though he just has 3 goals and 2 assists this season, the midfielder’s impeccable play is expected to turn fruitful sooner or later.

The former Valencia player returned to club soccer after a disappointing end to South Korea’s AFC Asian Cup campaign. Scoring two goals in the opener against Bahrain, Lee just provided an assist for the rest of the fixtures. Additionally, the 22-year-old faced a setback to the resumption of his Champions League with this sickness. It is also reported that multiple players started the game despite being affected by the gastric virus. The club refused to give the names of those players in order to avoid excuses in case of a loss.

However, PSG was able to churn out a win, with Kylian Mbappe breaking the deadlock in the 58th minute. Mbappe put in a good effort to stay on side and netted an easy ball coming in from Marquinho’s header in the Sociedad’s box of Dembele’s corner. Forward Bradley Bartola then extended the lead to two in the 70th minute. The Parisians will play the second leg on March 5th in an attempt for a quarterfinal spot they’ve been evading since 2021.
