Cristiano Ronaldo’s rivals in Saudi Arabia declined to sign Real Madrid left back, Ferland Mendy. On the back of a lukewarm season and the player’s desire for a move, Los Blancos decided to put him on the market. Out of many possible suitors, Saudi side Al-Fateh were transparent about their stance on a potential move for the French national.

Mendy, who arrived at the Bernabéu in 2019 from French side Lyon, is being plagued by injuries. Meanwhile, many Madristas took to social media to offer the Saudi club their underperforming player, and Al-Fateh responded rather sternly.

Al-Fateh made it clear that they were not interested in signing Ferland Mendy. Supporters joked about Mendy being the “best player.” In response  the Saudi side quipped, “Thanks, but keep him in your team”. Although Saudi Arabian clubs are attracting European talents this summer, the 28-year-old defender is not currently on their radar. The French international had informed Florentino Perez about his desire to leave the club through this transfer window, after struggling to maintain his form last season.

Los Blancos will probably make their new signing from Rayo Vallecano, Fran Garcia, the primary left-back option, relegating the French star to a backup role. Ferland Mendy’s subpar performances and injury issues prevented him from making a significant impact at Real Madrid. In light of his performance against Barcelona, there was high uncertainty about whether other teams will be interested in recruiting him.

Ferland Mendy’s performance in the EL Clasico

Real Madrid suffered a 3-0 defeat to Barcelona in their pre-season tour match in the United States. Ferland Mendy had an unconvincing performance in Dallas against the Catalonian side. The French defender played in only 17 La Liga matches last season with a tackle success rate of 73%. Injuries were a contributing factor to his limited output on the pitch.

Mendy’s misfortune from the previous season continued as he sustained a hamstring injury and was substituted in the first half of the game. However, Real Madrid set a transfer fee of $27 million for Mendy. Which club, according to you, will be interested in the 28-year-old defender? Comment below and let us know.
