UNICEF Soccer Aid featuring Usain Bolt and Yungblud

Soccer Aid is a British charity annual event that has raised over ?38 million in aid of UNICEF UK, through ticket sales and donations from the public. Friendly in nature, the matches are organised between two teams, namely England and the Soccer Aid World XI.

Furthermore, only celebrities and former professional players get to take part in and represent their countries. Gladly, this year Soccer Aid will make a comeback by organising matches at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester with another extensive line up all in aid of UNICEF.

Well, the lineup speaks for itself. Legendary players like Wayne Rooney, Roberto Carlos, Ashley Cole and Patrice Evra will be there. But famous faces like Usain Bolt, Roman Kemp and Paddy McGuinness, will also make an appearance. Alongside these personalities, Yungblud will also come on board.

Sharing his excitement, the Englishman said, ?It?s crazy to be taking part in Soccer Aid for UNICEF ? I feel like I?ve been waiting for the call my whole life! Being asked wasn?t something I even had to think about ? I said yes before I got the call. I can?t wait to get back in front of an audience. My fan base are my blood and guts, so I can?t wait to see them at the Etihad Stadium.”

“I know they?ll be showing their support by buying tickets to the match. I?ll be nervous but also excited walking into the stadium alongside some of my childhood heroes. Soccer Aid is such a cool idea, and it?s for a great cause ? UNICEF. Football is a lot harder than rock?n?roll for me. I think people are maybe expecting me to be on the pitch in a leather skirt and spike bracelet, but I?ll be out there trying to win the game.”

England vs World XI at Soccer Aid

Bolt’s team defeated an England line-up 3-0 in the UNICEF fundraiser. The Jamaican wore a jersey with 9.58 on the back, in honour of his world record time for the 100m. Leading the World XI team, he annoyed the opposition with his pace early. Tackling the former Manchester United and England full-back Gary Neville, he pulled him down right outside the penalty box.

After no goals being scored in the first 45 minutes, the World XI geared up. Eventually, the team ended up scoring three times after the break. One of them was by the England goalkeeper, stand-up comic Joel Dommett and the other two were scored successfully by the British reality TV personality Kem Cetinay.
