Simona Halep is currently in the form of her life. The top seed at French Open 2020 is on a 16 match winning streak which started way back in February. Now, she will continue her journey towards a 2nd French Open title and a 3rd Grand Slam title. However, it will not be a cakewalk as she faces Amanda Anisimova in the 3rd round tomorrow.

Coming to the French Open, Halep was on a 14 match winning streak which included three title victories. She defeated Karolina Pliskova in the Italian Open final held one week before the French Open.

Most players were in the US for US Open 2020. Taking advantage of that, Halep participated in the Prague Open and won it. Hence, she clearly has a head-start over the others and has adapted well to the clay court.

Halep has performed according to everyone’s expectations until now. She has been untouchable and played like a champion in the two matches on the red dirt of Paris.

Her 3rd round opponent tomorrow will be Amanda Anisimova. The 19-year-old broke into the scene when she reached the 2019 French Open semifinal.

En route to that semi-final, she defeated Simona Halep in the quarterfinals. Since then, she has had very few good performances.

Anisimova has been hot and cold on the WTA tour and has struggled with injuries and bad form. But at this year’s French Open, she has looked in some fine touch, having defeated her opponents in the 1st and 2nd round with an identical scorecard of 6-2,6-0.

Halep vs Anisimova: Head-to-head

Halep and Anisimova have faced each other once at last year’s French Open. Anisimova handed Halep a straight-set defeat in the quarterfinals. It was a huge result as Halep was the defending champion and Anisimova ended the Romanian’s title defense in a one-sided game.

Anisimova is a hard hitter, and with the high chance of the match being played under a closed roof, she could fire in some bangers down the line to trouble Simona Halep.

However, if Halep dominates from the first point, Anisimova won’t have many chances to come back. Halep has been consistent and shown great mental resolve since the resumption of the tennis season.

Taking everything into account, Halep looks ahead of Anisimova in terms of form and preparation. Having a better understanding of clay, it looks like Halep will get her revenge on Anisimova.
