Over the years, tennis star Simona Halep has contributed immensely to tennis. In her career so far, she has won 22 titles on the Tour and held the number one rankings twice between 2017 and 2019. She is the winner of two Grand Slam tournaments – the French Open 2018 and Wimbledon in 2019.

Recently, Simona Halep played in the Italian Open in Rome. Unfortunately, she lost the match as she had to withdraw from her Round of 32 matches against German former Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber. Interestingly, the Romanian star won the opening set 6-1 with ease. Midway through the second set, she felt some discomfort and took the tough decision of retiring.

I will fly home today and begin recovery in the pool and gym on Monday. I’m staying positive and will do everything I can to speed up my return. Thanks again and see you soon.”

Halep played at the Porsche Open in Stuttgart but lost in the semifinal to Belarusian player Aryna Sabalenka. She suffered an early defeat in Madrid too last week.

After her recent injury, it would be nice to see Simona recover and return on the Tour after feeling fully fit. It will be interesting to see if she can win the race against time and be seen on the courts at Roland Garros.
