Shroud is pretty vocal about the games that he plays. However, his comments on CS: GO attracted a lot of attention and sparked off a huge debate in the community. Shroud addressed Counter-Strike: Global Offensive competitive in the NA region as a ‘dying’ entity. Moreover, he also suggested that CS: GO as a whole is ‘undeniably dying’. Consequently, he faced a lot of criticism for his comments. Former pros and fans took to social media to express their dissent.
Responding to the reaction, Shroud said in a recent Twitch stream that his comments were taken out of context.

“I don’t think CS: GO is dying,” says Shroud
Shroud was a heavyweight in the CS: GO community before he switched to full time streaming. Many from the community who revered him felt Shroud had let them down with his comments. However, Shroud’s clarification on the same might help mollify those miffed with the whole incident.
“I don’t think CS is dying, I think NA CS at a competitive level has died a little bit and that’s just fact.”

He concluded by saying, “I don’t think CS is dying by no means, I think CS is very popular still, hundred percent it is. But that’s cool, throw some words in my mouth, why don’t ya. Or, maybe you didn’t throw words in my mouth, maybe I misinterpreted what I said because it is very clear the NA CS is hurting. Might not be dead, but NA CS is definitely hurting, which makes me sad. We were doing so well.”
It’s true that the NA region is going through a tough time right now. With the ongoing pandemic, the LAN tournaments are on hold and all the attention has shifted to Europe.

The situation was further aggravated when 100Thieves pulled out from the competitive scene, adding fuel to the theory that the competitive scene in NA has taken a huge hit. This gives credibility to Shroud’s comments on the competitive side of things in NA. However, as he admitted himself, CS as a whole is far from dying. Counter-Strike has been active for a long time and has sustained itself, even after an increase in competition.
The pandemic has brought in a series of unintended changes that have disrupted a chain of natural events. But Shroud’s clarification has provided a sense of relief for the fans. Stay tuned for more updates on the same.
