The BCCI will now have to write to the Technical Committee of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and officially request for Shikhar Dhawan’s replacement at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
Shikhar Dhawan will be replaced by Rishabh Pant, who had been called up from India in the last week.
Dhawan injured his left-hand thumb while facing a bouncer from Pat Cummins against Australia in their second match at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He did not come out to the field during the second innings. However, the 33-year-old won the man of the match award for his 109-ball 117 knock.
Shikhar Dhawan was then sent for a CT scan to get the detailed reports of the injury. It was found out that the left-handed batsman has a hairline fracture in his thumb. However, he was not ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 until now.
