The 18 edition of the Solheim Cup is going on in full swing at Finca Cortesin. The first day, without any exaggeration, did not go the way of Charley Hull. Nothing seemed to go right for the World No.13 yesterday. On Saturday, too, she had to sit through the first session. However, pairing up with Leona Maguire in today’s foursome, she seems to be getting back to her usual form.

In the afternoon session of the second day, Charley Hull and Leona Maguire were pitted against former world No. 1 Nelly Korda and her compatriot, Ally Ewing. It was always going to be a battle between Hull and Korda, with fans’ expectations rising as the golfer gradually recovered her form. However, this time, it was not Korda who was on the receiving end of Hull’s comeback, instead it was the English star’s own long-time support system!

Charley Hull makes a birdie, and then a blunder

A video was circulated on Instagram that showed an unlikely victim of Charley Hull’s return. This time, the Solheim Cup veteran left Adam Woodward, her longtime caddie, red-faced rather than Korda or Ewing.

In the now-viral video on Instagram, Hull is seen taking her birdie putt and nailing it in style. However, what happens after the shot becomes the main highlight of the video.

Amidst roaring applause from the home crowd, Hull picks up the ball and walks away to take her next shot. Her caddie, Adam Woodward, just as excited as the English golfer goes in for a fist bump to congratulate her. Hard luck, however! The LPGA pro appears to have been lost in thought and totally missed the prompt. Not once, but twice!

The hilarity of the situation in a supercharged environment like this didn’t elude anyone. On Instagram, fans poured in to share their reactions. Some were even funnier than the incident itself.

Fans took the opportunity to comment on the funny side of the Solheim Cup

The tournament has not been going Hull’s way since the beginning. First, she and her team drew a lot of flak from the fans for their attire. Then, the USA walked all over Europe in the first session. Today, she had to sit out the first session due to an ongoing sprain in her neck. Naturally, the comeback couldn’t have been sweeter than this. This fan probably had that in mind when they said “She’s pi***d”.

Hull was particularly suffering from missing crucial putts that pulled down her game a few notches. However, her birdie putt has kicked her back into the game, as seen in the next few holes. That must have been a major relief for the European fan who wrote, “After a birdie she is kicking a**.”

But some fans were more lighthearted in their comments. One fan simply commented “awkward,” while another fan simply wrote “ouchhh.” The latter probably had Adam Woodward’s face in mind!

Amidst all these, how do you think her caddie, Adam Woodward, would have felt? It must not be very pleasant, one would guess. And in line with that, one fan wrote, “You’ve done him dirty here.”

Another fan, joking about how Hull might have done this deliberately to jest with her caddie, commented, “Naughty Charlie (sic)”. After all, Hull shares an excellent rapport with her caddie. The pair has been together on the greens since 2015, two years after Hull made her pro debut.

One fan, however, was neither very convinced by the six-time Solheim Cup veteran’s display nor amused by the situation. Seemingly bothered by Hull’s current dip in form, this fan commented: “But the rest she putts like pushing a trolley.”

Undoubtedly, the English pro will be on a mission to prove all the naysayers wrong. As Team Europe looks to make history by clinching their third consecutive title, they will surely need Charley Hull to be the best version of herself!
