Former World No.1 Karolina Pliskova recently hired a new coach for the 2021 season. Sascha Bajin will coach the World No.6 going into the 2021 season. Bajin is Pliskova’s 4th coach in three years, and she and Bajin will expect this partnership to work and deliver brilliant performances.

In a recent interview with Tennisnet, Bajin revealed that after his partnership with Dayana Yastremska ended, he didn’t want to start a new adventure soon. But the prospect of coaching a former World No.1 excited him.

“I didn’t know her that well personally, but it actually went very easily and comfortably. I didn’t put any pressure on myself because I’ve been there for so long and originally didn’t want to continue on the tour straight away.”

Sascha Bajin on coaching former World No.1 Karolina Pliskova

Bajin found a belief in Pliskova and himself. He believes he can steer her towards glory with his philosophy.

“It must also make sense for me to work with a player. I have to believe in her and feel that she can do something great. For me, it is also important that I can help her with my way as a coach.”

Speaking frankly, Bajin was surprised with Pliskova’s request to coach her. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.

“I was then very surprised and happy that the request came from Karolina because she is a former number one and a big name. I am very honored and grateful for this opportunity.”

On how he got into a collaboration with Pliskova, Bajin revealed that he knew Pliskova’s husband, Michal Hrdlička. Michal approached Bajin and the German coach then had a conversation with Pliskova.

“I have had good contact with her husband, Michal, who is something like Karolina’s manager, for a long time. We talked on FaceTime two or three times. Then I talked to Karolina too. We already know each other from the tour because it has been with us for ages and so I wasn’t a stranger to it.”
