Questions raised about an incoming Duncan Fletcher-successor were dismissed both by the team director Ravi Shastri and the skipper MS Dhoni as the Indian Team lost an ODI series to neighbours Bangladesh.

“If you are indirectly hinting that we need a coach and all that, we have enough people in the support staff to take care of us,” Dhoni said midway through the series.

“Even if the position of the coach is vacant for some time, it is okay. Don’t put just anybody there just because the post is vacant. Then it will have a bad impact in the long run. It takes time to make these decisions, and our team generally doesn’t have that time because we keep playing non-stop.” he added.

The BCCI isn’t keen to appoint any head coach and in have confirmed that Shastri and the three assistant coaches – Sanjay Bangar (batting), B Arun (bowling) and R Sridhar (fielding) – had already been assured of renewal of their contracts, with the tenure not being decided upon, although it is believed to be a two-year-extension.

A BCCI insider is believed to have said that the board is quite satisfied with existing coaching staff and that Ravi Shastri would be the boss if needed.
