“Shameful Agenda”: Tennis Legend Slams Western Media for Dragging Novak Djokovic Down

Ever since the Adria Tour debacle happened people have hammered Novak Djokovic for his role in the tournament. The infamous charity tour happened across the Balkans in June. And with the pandemic a high risk the tour surprisingly didn’t have any precautions in place.

The tour visibly lacked any precautions like social distancing and the use of masks. Stadiums were filled with people and players were openly hugging and celebrating on court. All this eventually led to four players including Djokovic to get infected with the coronavirus.

Djokovic has apologized for the tour and said it happened with a good thought in mind. But still, there was a lot of negativity around Djokovic. From then on many have accused western media’s treatment of the 17 time Grand Slam champion. Earlier veteran player Nikola Pilic slammed western media for their hostile treatment against Djokovic.

And now former doubles World No.1 from the 80s, Paul McNamee called out the western media. He is upset with Djokovic’s treatment in the pre-US Open press conferences and interviews. He called it a ‘shameful agenda’ against the Serbian.

“The treatment that Djokovic is receiving by many in the Anglo Saxon media pre US Open reminds me so much of what Monica Seles had to deal with at Wimbledon 1992… hellbent on dragging him down as they did Monica…shameful agenda.” McNamee tweeted

Djokovic hasn’t let this controversy affect his confidence yet. In a recent interview, he said that he was unjustly blamed for the event. And he would organize another Adria Tour if he gets a chance.

He also was seen from a critical angle by the players. Nick Kyrgios has been very critical of the Serbian and other players who participated in the tour. And many had raised questions on Djokovic’s presidentship in the ATP player council.

Novak never responded to any allegations and instead focused on his recovery. He is in New York participating in the Western & Southern Open and the US Open, he is the hot favorite to win both the tournaments.
