Serena Williams has been the world No.1 women’s singles player for a long, long time in her career but on Monday at the Australian Open, she was up against a world No.1 for the first time since 2013 and there was a hilarious confusion before the iconic match at the Rod Laver Arena.
As the players were ready to come out of the tunnel and the announcer was ready to introduce the players on the court, a funny moment ensued.
Serena Williams standing in the tunnel ahead of her opponent and world No.1 Simona Halep starting coming out but turned out the announcement was for Halep.

The announcer was announcing for the top seed and having taken a few steps out, as soon as Serena realised her mistake, she turned right back into the tunnel. A partially laughing Simona Halep then made her way out of the court.
It was after her that Serena was introduced and came out again to a cheering Rod Laver Arena.
Serena Williams, a 7-time Australian Open champion, stayed on course for her 8th title in Melbourne.
Serena is also looking to match Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles and would hope for one at the Melbourne Park.

On Monday, Serena had an extremely stiff challenge in front of her in Halep. The Romanian is a fighter and she showed that on the court.
After being completely outplayed in the first set 6-1, Halep shot back at her revered opponent with some gusto to take the second set 6-4.
However, Serena showed her class in the final set and hit winners after winners at Halep to take the final set and the match. 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

Serena will go up against Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova. Pliskova managed to defeat Spanish player Garbine Muguruza in the last 16.
