World No.2 and top seed at French Open 2020, Simona Halep, has been an unstoppable force since the tennis restart. The Romanian is currently on a 17 match winning streak, acquiring three titles in the process.
In her journey towards a second French Open title, Halep has not put a foot wrong. In fact, she has been flawless and untouchable. Needless to say, she is regarded as a heavy favorite by many players and coaches.
Serena Williams‘ coach Patrick Mouratoglou, in a recent interview with Tennis Majors, named Simona Halep as the favorite for French Open 2020. He called the Romanian one of the best players on the clay court.

“To me, Simona Halep is the heavy favorite in the tournament. Heavy favorite because I think on the clay court she is probably one of the best in the world. If you look at her game, she has all the weapons that are necessary on clay.
“She is extremely difficult to put out of position she is not missing, she is playing with a lot of security in her shots and she is able to dictate and take the ball early which is important as well because you not going to win a Grand Slam by only defending, she can do both.”
Patrick Mouratoglou calls Simona Halep a fighter
Mouratoglou talked about the changes that have appeared in Halep’s character since she became a Grand Slam champion. The French coach labeled Halep as an ‘incredible fighter.’

“Her serve is her weakness but on clay, it’s not such a big weakness. And I will say that the big difference is not so much in her game but more first on her confidence because she has won Grand Slams now so she knows she can, she believes in herself.
“Second, I think mentally she has made huge progress. She has become an incredible fighter. So if you put all those things together, I don’t see anyone that is as favorite for the tournament as Simona Halep.”
Halep has reached the 4th round of French Open 2020 and will face Iga Swiatek tomorrow. The two have faced each other once and coincidently, their only clash was in the 4th round of last year’s French Open. Halep had thrashed Swiatek 6-1,6-0 in a highly one-sided match.
