Serena Williams’ revelation that she won the 2017 Australian Open while pregnant was a shock to the whole tennis fraternity. She was undoubtedly the best women’s tennis player with 23 Grand Slams, but that piece of news showed that nothing could stop her, not even a baby on its way.

And now she has announced her return in style, destroying her first-round opponent at the French Open, Karolina Pliskova with a straight-sets 7-6, 6-4 victory. She now faces Ashley Barty on Thursday for a spot in the third round.

It was her first major match since that Australian Open victory and not for a moment did she look rusty from being out of the game for so long. What makes it even sweeter is that she faced some complications during the birth of her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohenian, which delayed her return to competitive tennis.

Her comeback victory was not the only thing to make it to the news though. Serena sported a full body black outfit, which resembled a Black Panther-themed catsuit. Speaking about the outfit, she said, “I call it, like, my Wakanda-inspired catsuit. It was made way before the movie, but still, it kind of reminds me of that.”

She collaborated with Nike in designing this avant-garde outfit. But as a new mom, she commissioned a one-of-a-kind onesie from Kigurumi.co so she can sport matching outfits with her daughter, Alexis.

Serena further revealed her love for the fictional universe. “I’m always living in a fantasy world. I always wanted to be a superhero and it’s kind of my way of being a superhero.”

“It feels like this suit represents all the women that have been through a lot mentally, physically, with their body to come back and have confidence and to believe in themselves. I definitely feel like it is an opportunity for me to inspire a whole different group of women and kids”, added Serena.

Serena Williams’ comeback trail coincides with that of another former World No.1, Maria Sharapova and both these players have won their first round matches at the French Open. Both will be hoping to progress to the final stage and get to the Top 10 rankings.
