Scotland defeated Ireland in the third T20 of the 4-match series to take an unassailable lead of 2-0, after the second T20 was abandoned owing to the rain. Scotland won the third T20 by six wickets after successfully chasing down the target of 167 in 18.1 overs.

The star batsman who outshone in Scotland’s chase was captain Preston Mommsen who hit a Blitzkrieg knock of 47 not out in just 29 deliveries with 5 fours and a big one. Wicket keeper-batsman Matthew Cross scored 48 runs in 30 balls to set the stage for the Scottish win. Among the Ireland bowlers, only George Dockrell seemed to have his tactics right scalping 3/21 in his 4 overs.

Earlier, Ireland had scored 166/6 in their 20 overs following good knocks from Andrew Poynter and captain Kevin O’Brien.  But a late quickie by Tyrone Kane (26 off 17 balls) made sure that Ireland crossed the 150 mark further to set up a competitive total. Safyaan Sharif took 2 wickets for 26 runs in his quota of four overs for Scotland.

Ireland would want to win the final match in the series to be played on Sunday for some morale booster given that they are playing on their home ground. Scotland, on the other hand, would get all guns blazing and will go for the whitewash. The last T20 match of the series is expected to offer a lot of excitement.
