The Pakistan team have not enjoyed a particularly good ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. As a result, the Pakistan fans have been quick to voice their displeasure and disappointment. However, a few sour fans took things too far, especially when jeering at captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed.
The good news is, for every bad apple, there were tons of supportive fans who defended Sarfaraz Ahmed. The 32-year old was body-shamed in a video going viral online. Poor Sarfaraz suffered the wrath of Pakistan fans following a few tactical blunders during their 89-run defeat (DLS) to arch-rivals India.
The video depicted an irate fan was seen asking Sarfaraz Ahmed for a selfie before calling him “fat like a pig”. At the time, Sarfaraz Ahmed was with his son at a mall, and ignored the insulting jibe and walked away, to social media’s admiration.

Since he was able to ignore the insults and turn the other cheek, Sarfaraz Ahmed earned a lot of respect from social media. However, it was thought-provoking, when several Indian fans spoke highly of Sarfaraz Khan. Now, the troll is the one facing severe backlash on Twitter for his spiteful words.
“Rivalry apart @SarfarazA_54 is a simple down to earth man. Criticise him for his game but humiliation this way that too in presence of his kid is very callous. And the gentleman Sarfaraz is, he kept quiet despite grave provocation (sic),” a Twitter user wrote.
Another fan wrote: “As an Indian, I can say that such behaviour by ‘fans’ is unacceptable. Either support (and criticize whenever necessary) the team or don’t watch when they play. It is only a game. One side has to win and the other has to lose. Why take it to this level?”
Finally, the fan repented by apologising to the public and Pakistan fans via a video. Back when Pakistan clinched the Champions Trophy in 2016, Sarfaraz Khan was given a hero’s welcome. Sadly, it took a few poor showings in England, for the fans to banish the memories.
An angry group of Pakistan fans at Old Trafford screamed insults at the defeated Sarfaraz Ahmed as he waited to do his post-match duties after the defeat to India at World Cup 2019.
Pakistan fans trolled the team and questioned why they binged on burgers and milkshakes on the eve of their big World Cup 2019 match against India. This was in reference to, images of Sarfaraz Ahmed and some teammates buying burgers and milkshakes, which went viral on social media.
Former Pakistan fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar called Sarfaraz “brainless”, and criticised his tactical mistakes against India.

“The mistakes committed by the Indian team during the Champions Trophy 2017 final were repeated by Pakistan yesterday. I can’t understand how Sarfaraz can be so brainless. How could he forget that we don’t chase very well,” Shoaib Akhtar had said.
Pakistan are languishing in 9th spot in the World Cup 2019 points table with 1 win from 5 matches. Their next match will be against South Africa on June 23 at Lord’s, London.
