India’s campaign at Badminton Asia Championship ends with Saina Nehwal and P.V.Sindhu losing their respective quarter final matches on Sunday.
Saina lost to the fifth seed Tzu Ying Tai in a head to head battle that lasted for 55 minutes. The world number one got a good start by winning the first set by 16-21, but appeared to be struggling in the second game, giving it away to her opponent by 21-13. She ran out of steam in the third game, bringing the score to 21-18 and marking third loss against Tzu.
Eighth seeded Sindhu lost a tough battle to Olympic champion Li Xuerui of China by 11-21,21-19,21-8 in a 52 minute match. Sindhu ,who started with an impressive lead of 1-8 lodged a comfortable win in the first set. However ,second game onwards ,Li gave no chance to her opponent and made the tables turn in her favour.
Tzu Ying will face Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon and Life Xuerui will face Yihan Wang in their respective semifinal matches.
