‘UPSETS’, day 2 of $8,00,000 Indonesian Open superseries can be described just by this 1 word. Day 2 saw many upsets, world class & top seeded players losing to much lower seeds. It started with a shocking defeat of World no-2 Lin Dan of China by the hands of World no-13 T. Sugiarto of Indonesia, then it saw fall of Australian Open Superseries Finalist Victor Axelsen of Denmark against World no-13 Hu Yun of Hongkong. Much was expected from World no-9 Danish player after his great performance at Australian Open, but Hongkong’s player had other plans, he defeated him 21-13, 21-16. This is his 2 defeat this year against Hu Yun, he earlier got beaten by him in the Malaysian Open Superseries. Indian players survived the Day as Parupalli Kashyap & Kidambi Srikanth got through to the 2 round. World no-12 P. Kashyap defeated World no-17 T. Saensomboonsuk of Thailand 21-17, 21-7 & World no-4 K. Srikanth defeated World no-15 Vans Hans Kristen Vittinghus of Denmark in an hard fought match with the score line of 11-21,21-14,24-22.

Women’s category couldn’t avoid the scare of Upsets as World no-3 & recently crowned Australian Open Superseries winner Carolina Marin lost to World no-30, Y. Hashimoto of Japan. Japanese defeated Marin 10-21, 21-15,21-17. Japanese player came back strongly after losing the first set & took the next two sets to avenge her loss of Australian Open Superseries in which Marin defeated her. World no-9 Sun Yu of China also joined the casualty list as she lost to World No-18, B. Omgbunrungpan of Thailand. Poor performance by World no-14, P. V. Sindhu continues here in Jakarta as she was shown the door in the very 1 round by World no-26 Hsu Ya Ching of Chinese Taipei, who defeated her 16-21,21-15,21-14. Sindhu lost here in the 1 round last year as well against Wang Yihan of China. World  no-1 & 3 time Winner here Saina Nehwal didn’t had much problem as she takes her 1 step to the title by defeating World No-27 Nichaon Jinda post of Thailand 21-16,21-18. Saina is one of the favorites to win the tournament & her chances of winning are now brightened after defeat of some of the top seeds in her category.

In the doubles World no-18 Pair of Jwala Gutta/Ashwini Ponappa are through to the 2 round of Women doubles category. Pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra/Akshay Dawalkar registered win in their 1 round, while the duo of Manu Attri/B. Sumeeth Reddy got knocked out of the tournament.
