It is no surprise that support for the European Team will be limited at the Ryder Cup this weekend. With the covid-19 restrictions in place, fans from the other continent cannot come to cheer them on.

However, team captain Padraig Harrington has cleverly devised strategies to win over the pro-American crowd. In a practice session ahead of the cup, the squad was spotted sporting wearing themed clothing that elevated the enthusiasm of the fans.

Team Europe sports-themed costumes ahead of Ryder Cup

A foursome comprising Sergio Garcia, Shane Lowry, Tyrrell Hatton, and Jon Rahm will take to the course on the first day. They, along with their caddies, were seen in Whistling Straits in gold, green and white colors. These are the official colors of the Green Bay Packers, a professional American football team based in Wisconsin.

Moreover, as a final touch, they wore cheese-head hats. They flung their hats at the appreciative crowd and totally won them over.

‘Show respect for the local state’- Padraig Harrington

“Everybody is out here to get on well with the crowds,” Team Europe captain Padraig Harrington said. “There’s no doubt about that. We obviously can’t sign autographs this week with COVID, which is something that traditionally we would do. These fans have come out and they’ve come out on a cold day. They’ve come out to watch us, and we want to give them something to watch.”

“I think the players are pretty stoked out there that they’re doing something to show their respect for the local state we’re in. Look, it’s lighthearted. You want it that way in practice,” he added.

“It’s somewhat respectful of obviously the Green Bay Packers, and they were very much on board with this, so a bit of fun and we got a nice reception with it. That’s kind of what you want on the practice days. Obviously business starts on Friday, but, at the moment, the players are enjoying it and having a good time of it.”
