Real Madrid won first silverware of the season with a 2-0 win over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup match. Cristiano Ronaldo scored both the goals of the match starting his season in fine fashion. Played between the winners of Champions League and Europa League the match was played under a superb atmosphere in Cardiff with great support for both teams.
Both teams played their strongest sides respectively and the new recruits James Rodrigez and Toni Kroos started for the European champions.
Real were the favorites and the match started pretty much according to the script with Real enjoying most of the possesion. The first chance fell to Bale, the local boy when James Rodriguez’s cross picked out the Welshman superbly at the back post, but his outstretched volley was well saved by a blocking defender. Then there were few exchanges but finally the break through came in 30th minute ans yes it was that combination again, Bale and Roanldo. Both just changed the flanks and a bbeautiful long cross from the Welshman found Ronaldo in the box who still had a lot of work to do and guided it calmly into the net with a outstretched leg.

We should probably get used to this now.
5 minutes later the chance was at the other end when some horrendous defending saw Madrid fail to clear a bouncing ball inside the box, and from just yards out Daniel Carrico fired straight at Iker Casillas who blocks over to concede a corner.

The first half ended at 1-0 with Real looking more dominating. And the second half started where it left off with Real doing most if the attacking and the game was put to bed by Cristiano Ronaldo, again, in the 49th minute. After collecting a forward pass from Benzema on the edge fo the box, he fires across goal with his left foot and into the top corner – with Beto only helping push the ball into the back of the net.
The match became pretty much dull after that and Sevilla didn’t trouble San Iker for rest of the match until the very last minute. After just shooting wide, debutante James Rodriguez was substituted in 72nd minute making way for Isco. And apart from some typical surging runs of Gareth Bale and a left footed shot from Benzema, nothing much happened. There was still time to give Marcelo and Asier Illarramendi a run out.
It’s was not a bad tempered game but there was a flare up briefly between Ramos and Krychowiak, after the two tussled inside the box defending a corner, with Pepe being the peacemaker. Real Madrid were solid in defense specially Ramos who made fantastic interceptions through out the game. Sevilla did finish the game brightly with some attacking flare but it was not good enough to get a goal to their name and match finished 2-0.

It was a typical performance by the Spanish giants and looks like they are the team to beat this season.
