Rohit Sharma, India’s explosive opener has been playing continuously across formats in this year where he has been going through a purple patch. From winning the IPL title by beating Chennai Super Kings by 1 run to scoring five centuries in the ICC World Cup, he is everywhere. Along with this, he has established himself as one of the successful opener in Tests as well. He justified his opening spot in Test by scoring a magnificent century against South Africa in Visakhapatnam.

After that, he smashed 176 in the first innings and then followed it up with a scintillating 127 in the second innings as well. In the process, he became the first batsman to score twin tons in the maiden Test as an opener. Rohit Sharma even scored his maiden double hundred. He registered his career-best score of 212 in the 3rd Test match against South Africa.

Even when the regular captain Virat Kohli took a short break, he led India against Bangladesh in three-match T20I series, winning by 2-1. After that, he played in the recently concluded limited-over series against West Indies

Rohit Sharma to take a break

As per the reports, Rohit has decided to take a break from cricket and he will miss the upcoming three-match T20Is against Sri Lanka. The first T20I will be played at Guwahati on January 5, the second one will take place in Indore on January 7 and the final one at Pune (January 10). It has been learned that the opener is likely to join the team for the three-match ODI series against Australia later in January.

“The selectors normally don’t give rest to anyone in the T20 team, but Rohit has been on the road for quite a while now. He has informed the Board that he wants to take rest for this series,” a source in the BCCI said to TOI.
