Over the past two decades, men’s tennis has enjoyed a golden era in which some of the best players in history were part of the same generation. Superstars such as Andy Murray, along with the golden trio of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic have all competed against each other.

Sadly, Andy Murray does not have a great track record against these players in Grand Slam matches. He has lost eight finals to them in the Majors, five against Djokovic and three against Federer.

He has never faced Nadal in a final but has had high intense matches in the rounds prior, which have not gone in his favor most of those times.

Recently, former American player James Blake reflected on Andy Murray’s results against the other three players and stated, “It’s the big four but obviously it’s become the big three since his injury. I agree that Andy Murray was the guy that absolutely could win a slam and had the unfortunate luck of being the runner-up so many times to those big three in slam finals.” His comments came during a discussion about whether it was the ‘Big 4’ or the ‘Big 3’ in men’s tennis.

Andy Murray failed to get the better of the big three in Slams

There came a point in time when Andy could beat every other player on the Tour. However, when he came up against Roger, Rafa, or Novak, he fell short most of those times. On a positive note, two out of his three Grand Slam titles were won beating Djokovic in the final.
