Roger Federer: “Cincinnati is Faster Than Wimbledon”

Seven times Cincinnati Masters champion, Roger Federer was stunned by Andrey Rublev 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16 of the Western and Southern Open 2019 on Thursday.

In a post-match interview, Roger Federer claimed that the courts in Cincinnati are faster than that of the courts at the Wimbledon Championships. The 38-year-old certainly felt rushed by they fearless Andrey Rublev on the fast court.

The Swiss Maestro revealed, “For sure this court is faster than Wimbledon. The bounce flies higher and it’s difficult to control, the heat is another factor. Cincinnati is faster than Wimbledon”

Roger Federer also talked about switching from night matches to the day matches. He said, “It’s always a factor, day sessions are tough, the balls speed up with hot conditions. I like the Northern American conditions, the hard courts, fast courts, but Rublev didn’t give grant any rhythm. It is difficult to know patterns against a player like Rublev.”

Roger Federer certainly feels vary of hot conditions. Last year, the world No.3 was defeated in the fourth round of the US Open. Federer later revealed that he was feeling uncomfortable because of the hot conditions.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion felt that he couldn’t get air with no circulation at all. However, Federer divulged that he will come prepared for the hotter conditions in New York as he will practice on hot days.

He said, “Needed too much time to find into the match, serve wasn‘t good enough, he just played wonderfully, can‘t even be too frustrated, he was just too good, will discuss USO preparation now, will try to practice on hot days, looking forward to US Open.”

Roger Federer also praised his opponent for playing excellent all-round tennis. The Swiss commented, “He was super clean. Defense, offense, serving well. Didn’t give me anything. He was everywhere. So it was tough for me, but excellent match by him. I was impressed. He played a super match.”

Federer suggested that the Russian was better everywhere, it was tough for him. He said he had to play better overall, wished he hadn’t given Rublev the lead.

Roger Federer was once again asked to comment on the latest meltdown of Nick Kyrgios at the Cincinnati Open 2019. However, the 38-year-old denied speaking anything on the topic. He said, “I won’t comment on the Kyrgios match. Not in the mood.”

Federer concluded that he is injury-free and is satisfied with his performance regardless of the outcome. “I’m injury-free and I’m feeling good, regardless of the outcome of this week.”
