Rockstar Games recently confirmed its purchase of Ruffian Games in a press release. Originally established in 2008, Ruffian Games attracted attention with its open-world, action-adventure game, Crackdown 2. The game has been an Xbox-exclusive since its launch and received above-average reviews from the gaming community.

Ruffian Games is one of the most exciting independent game developer in Scotland.

Rockstar Games working on unspecified “upcoming titles”

With this purchase, Ruffian Games, as Rockstar Dundee, is now a Dundee based branch for Rockstar Games. Rockstar’s founder Sam Houser appreciates the Ruffian Games team,

“The Ruffian team are a talented addition to Rockstar’s global studios, and we look forward to working together on future projects.

Gary Liddon, Billy Thomson, and Gareth Noyce founded Ruffian Games to expand game development in Scotland. According to Billy Thomson, Rockstar’s acquisition proves that they’ve succeeded in their purpose.

Last year, Ruffian had announced that its collaboration with Rockstar for some “upcoming titles”. However, even after a year, fans have no clarity on these projects, but the official deal brings hope.

Ruffian Games is hiring for its forthcoming collaborations

The Dundee-based developer recently retweeted a post by a Scottish news outlet, confirming that it has positions open for the Rockstar-related projects. The Scottish developer team already has a lot of experienced and talented individuals. However, if they’re hiring, it hints towards something big. Rockstar Games has a lot of titles under its name. As for now, it isn’t confirmed that the Dundee establishment will assist it in an existing title, or work on a new one. Fans have been expecting further updates on the Bully sequel and GTA 6 for a long time, and Rockstar Dundee might give it to them soon.

It is great to see Rockstar Games regain its momentum. With the departure of former Rockstar Games North President, Leslie Benzies, things had gone somewhat downhill for the corporation. But the new Dundee establishment might pave the way for its comeback.
