Current online RL players will be rewarded with “Legacy” status
If you are wondering what happens to the Rocket League game you own currently, amidst the changes, rest assured. On the Rocket League official website sharing the news, devs have made it clear that anyone who already owns Rocket League on any platform will be able to play and enjoy the game with full support for future updates and features. It is to be noted, however, that the Steam version will no longer be available to download.
Now here’s the fun part: what does the “Legacy” status as mentioned above entail? Well, for starters, it means that if you have played Rocket League online before the launch of free to play, you will get all the Rocket League-branded DLCs released before free to play. Along with this, players will get:
An “Est. 20XX” title, that will display the first year you played the game.
200+ of your “Common” items will be upgraded to “Legacy” quality.
A Golden Cosmos Boost, and if you have played online prior to the ‘free-to-play’ announcement, the Faded Cosmos Boost as well.
Dieci-Oro Wheels (Cool, huh?).
Huntress Player Banner.

Rocket League will feature on the Epic Games Store on PC
This will be happening when the game goes free to play. This version, available, on the Epic Games Store on PC, will feature crossplay and will be the same as the versions of the game available on other platforms. Along with this, devs are changing the Main Menu UI to make navigation easier in-game. In addition to this, there are new tournaments and challenges to come.

The game has a neat cross-platform play system. You will be able to bring your items, Rocket Pass progress, and your Competitive Rank to every platform you play the game on. Note: you will have to have an Epic Games account for this. Also, your inventory will still be retained after the free to play goes live.
The core of the game remains the same and with its inclusion in the Epic Games Store and the introduction of cross-platform play, the game will continue to grow a larger community.
