Roberto Firmino Helps Liverpool Edge Past an Impressive Wolves Side

It was always going to be an interesting match when Liverpool locked horns with an impressive Wolverhampton Wanderers. And considering it was at the home of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, Jurgen Klopp and his men had their work cut out.

And their encounter didn’t disappoint as Wolves and Liverpool played out a highly competitive match. Though the runaway Premier League leaders once again found out a way to win the match 2-1.

Jurgen Klopp went with the same line-up which took the field against Manchester United. With the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamad Salah, Roberto Firmino and Virgil Van Dijk all starting. 

Nuno Espirito Santo too didn’t change his side from their last match against Southampton. Raul Jimenez, Adama Traore and Pedro Nito all starting. Diego Jota and Willy Bolly both starting on the bench after returning from their individual injuries.

It was Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson open the scoring for the reds. Trent Alexander Arnold provides the provided the assist from a corner which was headed in by Henderson. Wolves goalkeeper, Rui Patricio, did get his hand to Henderson’s header, though he was unable to stop it from going in. 

While Liverpool took their lead into the half-time, it only took six minutes after the half-time for Wolves to equalise. Wolves gave Liverpool some of their own medicine as they scored with a fantastic counter-attacking movie. It was Adama Traore who did the most of the hard work as he ran down the right-wing to cross the ball of Raul Jimenez. And the Mexican was upto the task as he turned in Traore’s cross.

It seemed like Liverpool were going to drop points at the Molineux Stadium, though Roberto Firmino had different plans. It was a move made my Mohamad Salah who slid in for Firmino and the Brazilian made no mistake from close range. 

With that win, Liverpool have gone 16 points clear at the top spot. Jurgen Klopp’s men racked up their 23rd win from 24 matches in the Premier League.
