Given all the talk about Rafael Nadal’s bid for his 21st Grand Slam and the fiasco around Novak Djokovic’s deportation, the Australian Open 2022 has been full of instance. Currently ranked number 70 in the world, Cressy recently talked about still not having a sponsorship deal.

Maxime Cressy is through to the 4th Round for the first time at the Australian Open 2022

For the first time, Cressy has reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament. The 24-year-old has seen a sudden resurgence in his performances and his career. Nowadays, upcoming players usually bag sponsorship deals when they begin winning matches on the big stage.

Interestingly, Maxime doesn’t have any yet and has different plans about the same. He spoke on this subject and stated, “Not yet. I wait until I have a major breakthrough and I have the leverage to negotiate, especially during the COVID. I prefer really breaking through to the top 50, top 10 and then I negotiate.”

Reflecting on his performances so far, Cressy played his first-round match against American star John Isner. He shocked a majority of people by ending up on the winning side. After over four hours, he won the match in five sets.

Following that, he was up against Tomas Machac and won the match eventually in four sets. That victory helped him register his best performance in a Grand Slam by reaching the third round at the Australian Open.

Soon after, he was up against Australia’s wild card entrant, Christopher O’Connell. Similar to the previous round, he won the match in four sets. In the next match, he will be facing arguably one of the best tennis players on a hardcourt, Daniil Medvedev, and it will definitely be a tough task for the American. We wish both players the best of luck for the upcoming match.
