The Eden Gardens in Kolkata in all likelihood will be hosting the final of the ICC World T20 event to be held from March 11 to April 3. According to reports, Chennai’s M.A. Chidambaram has not be given any matches.

Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Mohali, Nagpur, Indore and Dharamshala are the other venues which will be hosting the matches during the multi team event next year.

The decision to award Eden Gardens the final is no surprise seeing that Jagmohan Dalmiya is at the helm at the BCCI office. It also comes citing the fact that Eden missed out on hosting the India-England encounter during the 2011 World Cup. The HPCA stadium in Dharamsala, which has mostly hosted IPL and domestic matches, apart from a few international matches, gets the nod because of Anurag Thakur now being the secretary of BCCI.

Eden Gardens has always been one of the most prestigious cricket stadium’s in Indian cricket and once had a capacity of more than 100,000 people. It has hosted the final of 2013 and 2015 editions of the IPL, apart from hosting the final of 1987 World Cup final and the infamous semi-final of 1996 World Cup.

Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel Stadium (Motera), too has missed out on hosting any matches during the ICC World T20 2016 and will also miss out on hosting the India South Africa test match later this year. This is due to the renovation work being carried out at the stadium.
