The introduction of crossplay in Apex Legends has been the talk of the town for a while now, since players have been demanding this since the inception of the game. Data miners had been looking for clues regarding crossplay in the game’s build but their efforts had been in vain until now. After announcing that the game would get crossplay this fall, Apex has stayed mum on the matter. A lot of data miners have leaked that the game will most probably get this feature by mid-September.

Twitter has been bursting with updates from various leakers and data miners who agree with this, and as usual, fans have had mixed reactions on the matter. However, most of the reactions have been positive.
Hints suggest that crossplay might come to Apex Legends later this month
Leakers like Shrugtal found the first substantial hint for this in the code of this season that included member variables in the code by the name of “m_crossPlayChat” and “m_crossPlay”. They also found developer console commands that hinted at this feature as well.
In addition to this, this season’s game code also contained UI scripts for crossplay chat, like “GetChatroomCrossPlayAllowedForPlayer”. Data miners have also figured out how the accounts on various platforms will be linked in the game. The social systems (in-game friends, party status, player stats,) will work through EA Games’ own Cloud infrastructure known as the EADP or Electronic Arts Digital Platform. From the looks of it, the game build is almost ready to host cross-play.

Given that this will be a significant update to the game, it should be released at the next big event. Currently, the biggest upcoming event is the much talked about ‘Aftermarket’ collection event. Leakers all across have examined the store data to be certain of the date for this event, which is assumed to be sometime around September 15. One can also expect the devs to launch cross-play on the same date.
