The 2020 French Open is finally drawing to a close, with the women’s finals scheduled later today. 19-year-old Iga Swiatek, who has turned many heads by defeating heavyweights like Simona Halep, is one of the finalists. She is playing amazing tennis and tennis legend, Mats Wilander, is very happy with the discovery of this new talent. In a recent interview, he said,

“I think Iga can dominate on all courts. She has a great serve, she obviously returns unbelievably well and when the ball is in play she hits with so much power and top spin that she is a different player than all of the other women… I think she is there to be a Grand Slam champion, multiple times. I genuinely believe that Iga can be the one.”

Furthermore, the 7-time Grand Slam champion compared Iga with another great player – Novak Djokovic. He said,

“Her basic game reminds me of Novak Djokovic, who plays close to the baseline. If you don’t hit the ball well then he’ll take the short ball and hurt you with it. She is very natural, not risky either, because she hits the ball with so much spin and so much margin.”

Iga Swiatek Looking To Make The Top 20

Due to her amazing run, Iga Swiatek has made some significant gains in her ranking. She is already set to be ranked as the World No. 24, but that will not be enough for her. She wants to be in the top 20 and she will achieve that if she wins the title. However, that will not be easy.

Her opponent Sofia Kenin has also been playing some amazing tennis. At the start of the year, she won the Australian Open, and she has carried that form into the Parisian Slam. Iga clearly has a tremendous challenge ahead of her but hopefully, she will overcome it to win her first Grand Slam.
